Adults who grow up in alcoholic, and/or otherwise addicted, families often suffer from clinically diagnosable childhood trauma. These children grow up with various addictions with classic, recurring troublesome feelings, beliefs and behaviors that persist into adulthood.
12-step recovery offers a path, over time, to a healthy useful life. Yet, for many of us, underlying childhood trauma may go undiagnosed and untreated…which can – privately and negatively – affect the quality of our recovery life.
Robert shares his journey down the 12-step and trauma healing journey. He will take a deeper dive into what childhood trauma is, how it happens, and what strategies and treatments are available to those who continue to privately suffer.
He is 41 years sober in AA and 40 years in ACA. He has worked the steps in AA, ACA, SLAA, and OA (4th). With years of childhood trauma therapy, including EMDR and Somatic Experiencing, he has imperfectly healed his underlying layers of addiction. Robert freely shares his recovery journey on his Call2Parent website, which includes meetings, podcasts, and workshops.
